From November 24th to 26th, the finals of the 7th National University Undergraduate Model Design Competition for Urban Underground Space Engineering, sponsored by the Chinese Society of Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education for Civil Engineering Majors in Higher Education Institutions, and Guangdong University of Technology, officially kicked off. The competition attracted more than 80 representative teams from Southeast University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Central South University, Sichuan University, Chongqing University, Hefei University of Technology, Southwest Jiaotong University, and other universities to sign up and participate.

Our school's representative team consists of Wanling Light (members: Lin Xizhe, Huang Hai, Li Yuan, guidance teacher: Zhang Linlin) and Concrete Heart Cooperation (members: Zhao Yudong, Tang Yuxin, Mo Guikai, guidance teacher: Wang Yunxia) from the Urban Construction Engineering Department of the School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. After two days of intense competition, the Wanling Light representative team won the national special prize with the first place result, and the Concrete Heart Cooperation representative team also achieved an impressive second prize in the country, winning honor for the school and fully demonstrating the high spirited demeanor of the students at the University of Technology. In the preparation stage, the participating team members train hard, work hard, and constantly innovate. The guidance teacher answers questions in a timely manner and patiently guides them. The participants at the competition were calm, meticulous, and cooperative, demonstrating their excellent professional qualities and skills with excellent results. This is also another achievement achieved by the college in improving the quality of talent cultivation through subject competitions.

The topic of this college student model design competition is the design and production of a double layered underground space structure model. Participants are required to test the mechanical parameters of the relevant components of the model, complete the theoretical calculation of the bearing capacity of the double layered underground space structure system design, design and produce the double layered underground space structure system with the lowest cost and the least amount of materials (white cardboard), and then test the bearing capacity and deformation characteristics of the white cardboard seal layer and the double layered underground space model structure system through loading tests.

This competition will help promote the formation of a good atmosphere of sincere cooperation among universities, enhance the influence of our university's urban underground space engineering major in China, demonstrate the solid theoretical foundation, active innovative thinking, strong hands-on ability and team collaboration ability of our university's urban underground space engineering students, and have a positive significance for further improving the level of urban underground space engineering and the quality of talent cultivation.
