The Department of Urban Construction Engineering at Hefei University of Technology, established in June 2018, evolved from the Department of Construction Engineering, one of the first five departments at the Xuancheng campus. It offers the Urban Underground Space Engineering program, which began enrolling students in 2018 after initially being part of the Civil Engineering program.

The department emphasizes innovation and practical learning, with students actively participating in academic competitions and entrepreneurship projects. They have achieved notable success in national events such as the National University Students Model Design Competition for Urban Underground Space Engineering and the National University Students Structural Design Competition.

With 18 full-time faculty members, including 3 professors and 6 associate professors, the department offers a wide range of courses covering Tunnel and Underground Engineering, Structural Mechanics, Hydrogeology, and more. The department emphasizes hands-on experience through internships, projects, and graduation theses, producing graduates with solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The department is dedicated to improving education quality by recruiting high-level faculty, fostering research, and enhancing teaching methods, including bilingual and multimedia materials. Over the past three years, faculty have undertaken over 30 research projects, receiving more than 5 million RMB in funding, including support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Through continuous improvement, the department is building strong academic and research foundations while developing distinctive educational strengths.
