The surveying discipline at Hefei University of Technology has a rich history, with the Surveying and Mapping Teaching and Research Office established as one of the university's first units. In 1952, Professor Lü Jifang, a national expert in railway surveying, contributed significantly to the field. After China's reform and opening up, the department strengthened its faculty and undertook key research projects, such as the development of laser rangefinders and precision engineering surveying, winning major awards in 1978.
In 1977, the university led the compilation of the national surveying textbook Surveying, which became widely adopted in engineering programs nationwide. The book, with multiple updated editions, has distributed over 800,000 copies and received national recognition in 1996.
The surveying discipline offers bachelor's and master's degree programs and has established practical training bases with organizations like the Anhui Provincial Surveying Bureau and Hefei Land Bureau. Young faculty members and students have excelled in national and provincial competitions.
Research in the discipline focuses on two main areas: 1) Precision Engineering Surveying and Engineering Deformation Monitoring, involving high-precision navigation and satellite signal processing for structural and environmental monitoring. 2) Satellite Navigation and 3S Integration, which combines GPS, GIS, and remote sensing technologies for real-time, accurate data collection and environmental monitoring, with applications in urban planning, disaster monitoring, and smart city development.
