The Department of Civil Engineering at Hefei University of Technology, with a history of over 70 years, originated from the Civil Engineering Department of Anhui Provincial Bengbu Senior Industrial Vocational School in 1945. It offers undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering (focusing on construction), along with master’s and doctoral programs in Structural Engineering, Disaster Prevention, and Mitigation Engineering. Structural Engineering is a key discipline in Anhui Province.The department is recognized for its high academic standards and national-level specialties. It was one of the first pilot programs for China's Outstanding Engineer Education Training Plan and has consistently passed national evaluations. The department admits around 200 undergraduate students and 100 master's students annually, drawing from across China.

With a dedicated faculty of 35 members, including experts with national qualifications, the department emphasizes innovation, practical skills, and interdisciplinary learning. It offers a comprehensive curriculum with a focus on theory and practice. Since 2013, the program has prioritized hands-on experience through internships, design projects, and partnerships with construction companies.Research is supported by the Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Civil Engineering Structures and Materials, and faculty lead over 100 projects, including national programs and local initiatives. The department also engages in engineering services such as consulting, design, and testing. Its alumni have played key roles in major infrastructure projects across China, contributing significantly to the nation’s construction industry.
